Advanced Sidemount Diver

The TDI Advanced Sidemount Diver Course, offers the same benefits as the TDI Sidemount Diver course but gives you the opportunity to dive with 2+ cylinders for extended dive times.

The Advanced Sidemount Diver course is a great way to get started into technical diving because the skills you learn in this course will train you to handle multiple cylinders

You can combine what you learn in the Tec Sidemount Diver course with other open-circuit tech courses that you take, or certifications you’ve already earned, to take advantage of sidemount’s cylinder configuration and handling advantages.

This course is recommended for Technical Divers that are Sidemount certified to become cave divers or Advanced Nitrox Divers that would like to do their Extended Range or Trimix 60 course on Sidemount.

Prerequisites

  • Minimum of 18 years old
  • Certified Sidemount diver

If you are already familiar with this configuration, it takes a normally of 2-3 days

Many other courses are available, ask which one you would like to do!

Sidemount Diver

Recently sidemount diving is gaining popularity between recreational divers and open water tech divers as well. For recreational divers it is mainly the increased gas supply without carrying heavy twinsets, furthermore, you can transport your tanks one by one to the entry point. Also, it is possible to attach them on the surface, helping people with back problems. Buoyancy and trim are really great in the water using this setup!

One disadvantage I’ve found is the surface time… It is really not comfortable if you have to spend a long time waiting for the others. Also, task loading (you have to keep the gas level balanced in the tanks) and purchasing new equipment can be a turndown.

For technical divers using more than 2 deco stages this setup starting to get uncomfortable. (But it is entirely up to you if that is what you are used to, keep it)

Honestly, I really fell in love with sidemount diving, when I did my cave courses.

The course takes a minimum of 3 days to finish.

After gaining knowledge and experience with Sidemount configuration, you can progress to Technical Sidemount.

What are the prerequisites?

  • certified Open Water (technically you could do the OW course in sidemount but I really don’t recommend it.)
  • According to my experience, you will benefit more to learn it after logging at least 20 dives
  • 18 years old (15 with parental consent)

Advanced Wreck Diver

The Advanced Wreck course surely is one of my favourites! We have some sunken ships in Sicily, and divers think they are just safe to penetrate without any precaution. But have you ever tried exiting any of them safely while blindfolded? You will immediately realise that even in a wreck well known to you this can be very tricky.

What is in the course?
In the TDI Advanced Wreck course you will practice proper line laying, lost diver, lost line and other line drills, and several skills during exit. Swimming out with a teammate while gas sharing through restrictions needs good teamwork, probably at a level which is higher than you are used to. You will practice zero visibility exits, and combine the zero visibility with gas sharing. Just to keep it fun.

Furthermore, you will learn or polish up on proper communication in an overhead environment, dive planning, and team coordination.

Advanced Trimix Diver

Advanced Trimix course you will learn to handle multiple stages, planning hypoxic trimix dives up to 100 m with travel gases.

Team and situational awareness should be on a very high level at this point, we will work on that as well.

Equivalent narcotic depth, gas reserve, HPNS and Isobaric counter diffusion, backup planning are just some of the topics we will cover. The maximum depth on the course will depend on your previous experience, the minimum we will reach 75 m the maximum is 100m.

Trimix Diver (normoxic)

Are you looking to expand your depth range? Do you want to reduce narcosis during deep dives? The TDI Trimix Diver course could be your next step!

As your motivation to explore progresses, you will find that you may want to go deeper to dive that wreck that is part of history or that cave system that you have read so much about. One of the major limiting factors of going deeper is narcosis; TDI’s Trimix Diver course shows how to minimize the effects of narcosis by adding helium to offset the nitrogen in your breathing gas. While taking the Trimix Diver course your TDI Instructor will teach you how to plan and execute dives utilizing as little as 18 percent oxygen and diving to maximum depth of 60 metres/200 feet with a blend of helium appropriate for the planned depth.

What you can expect to learn:

  • Advanced decompression dive planning including:
    • Gas planning based on equivalent narcotic depths, nitrogen and helium absorption and elimination, CNS and OUT limits, Isobaric Counter diffusion, volume requirements, etc.
    • Decompression gas choices
    • Tables vs. personal dive computers
    • Emergency and contingency planning (equipment failure, omitted decompression, etc)
  • Decompression diving procedures
    • Equipment selection
    • Pre-dive checks and drills
    • Stress analysis and mitigation
    • Following a decompression schedule
    • Gas switching
    • Team awareness and communication
    • SMB/lift bag deployment
  • Proper trim, buoyancy and finning techniques
  • Management of multiple decompression/stage cylinders
  • Emergency procedures (equipment failures, catastrophic gas loss, omitted decompression, navigational errors, injured/unconscious diver, etc)
  • Equipment considerations, cylinder labeling, analyzing trimix nitrox and mixes, and gas blending procedures

Who this course is for:

  • The certified Advanced Nitrox and Decompression Procedures diver looking to:
    • Extend their depth range
    • Reduce narcosis for all deep dives
    • Advance their technical diving education

Course prerequisites:

  • Minimum age 18
  • Minimum certification of TDI Advanced Nitrox AND Decompression Procedures Diver, or equivalent
  • Proof of 100 logged dives

What’s in it for you?

  • Ability to conduct technical diving activities using custom trimix mixtures without direct supervision provided:
    • The diving activities approximate those of training
    • The areas of activities approximate those of training
    • Environmental conditions approximate those of training
  • Ability to enroll in TDI Advanced Wreck and TDI Advanced Trimix courses

TDI Trimix Diver minimum certification requirements:

  • Satisfactorily complete the TDI Trimix Diver course written examination
  • Complete all open water requirements safely and efficiently

Demonstrate mature, sound judgment concerning dive planning and execution

Extended Range Diver

With this course you extend your skills and knowledge and experience required to competently utilize air for dives up to 55 metres / 180 feet that requires staged decompression, utilizing nitrox mixtures or oxygen during decompression. You will learn the proper techniques, equipment requirements, and hazards of deep air diving to a maximum of 55 metres / 180 feet utilizing nitrox mixtures or oxygen for staged decompression.

You will have 4 dives deeper than 30 m., 2 of them deeper than 40 m.
